Cancer Full Moon

Happy Cancer Full Moon, and welcome to winter. 🌕

While many people are ushering in the new year with resolutions and vows to become a new version of themselves overnight, I like to take a gentler approach to this season.

For me, winter isn’t the time to bloom or charge forward. That kind of expansion feels much more aligned with Aries season and the Spring Equinox.
Winter is different.

Rather than asking What do I need to accomplish?, I find this season invites a subtler question:

What energy do I want to cultivate?

Winter feels like a time of composting and fertilizing the soil of our heart and soul.
A time to shed what no longer fits, to soften, to rest. Like a snake releasing an old skin — tender, newly exposed, and vulnerable — we find ourselves asking: What kind of care does this new version of me need?
What coziness are we wrapping around ourselves?
What environment are we creating for our future dreams to root into?

This Full Moon in Cancer, a sign deeply connected to home, family, and emotional nourishment, brings that question into even clearer focus. It asks us to take stock of how we care for ourselves, how we care for our families, how supported we feel in our homes, and how rooted we feel in our inner world.

This is the season of nourishing soups, gentle tidying, reconnecting with friends, and listening closely to what our bodies and hearts are asking for.

Rather than setting resolutions, I like to choose a power word — a word that becomes the foundation for the year ahead.
Not a rigid goal, but an energy that can guide our choices.

For example, if your goals revolve around weight loss, instead of focusing on numbers on a scale or strict diet plans, what if your word was health, movement, or self-love?
How does that feel in your body compared to a resolution?
Does it feel more supportive? More spacious? More loving?

The Sun in Capricorn does ask us to get intentional — to clarify how we want to spend our time and who we’re becoming — but it doesn’t require harshness to do so, just honesty. And Mars and Venus are here to help.

Over the past month, we’ve touched on how the Sun was slowly being flanked by Mars and Venus — our drive and our desires, our will and our values. As they moved through Sagittarius, getting closer to the Sun, there was a sense of exploration: testing, wandering, asking big questions about what motivates us and what makes life feel meaningful.

Now, though, that energy is concentrating.

Mars and Venus are just one degree away from the Sun, traveling together so closely that their energies are merging into a single point of focus. This is a moment of combustion — not in a destructive way, but in the sense of being fueled. Our wants, our values, our desires, and our actions are being drawn into the heart of the Sun.

This can feel like a growing urge for clarity.
A desire to know who you are becoming, what truly matters, and what kind of life you’re building — not in a rushed or urgent way, but with sincerity and intention.

In Capricorn, this conjunction asks: How do you want to show up in the world?
What kind of foundation do you want your efforts, your love, and your energy to rest upon?

This isn’t about forcing answers. It’s about letting something true come into focus.

To help you find that clarity, I feel called to share the meditation we do in my coven Spiral Within to discover your power word for the year.

✨ Guided Meditation: Finding Your Power Word

Take three slow, deep breaths.

Feel where your body makes contact with the ground.
Know that you are held. You are safe. You are loved.

Imagine yourself gently connecting with the earth below you, like a taproot burrowing into rich soil. Feel the peace of being supported by the steady embrace of Mother Earth.

Imagine yourself as a seed held in Mother Earth's embrace.
Your only job right now is to wait… to soften… to be.
Perhaps to dream of the coming spring.

Celebrate the potential that lives within you.

To grow strong and healthy, what kind of foundation do you need?
How do you want to feel?
What nourishment would you like added to this soil?

Let a word bubble up.
Notice how it feels in your body.

Let a second word arise.
And then a third.

From these, choose the word that feels the most nourishing, supportive, and grounding — the one that creates stability and makes your heart tingle.

Imagine soaking in this energy all winter long.
See small, everyday ways you can invite this word into your life.

Visualize your seed, deeply nourished, eventually breaking through the soil in spring — ready to be kissed by the sun and share this energy with the world.

Root down to rise.
As Above, so Below - or in this case, as Below, so Above.

Hold your power word gently in your heart as you return.

Reflection:
What simple forms of care would help nourish the soil of your heart and soul for the year ahead?
(Three gentle ideas max.)

Once you’ve found your word, I invite you to explore Sigil Making — a simple, powerful practice we work with inside Spiral Within. I’m feeling especially inspired to share this as a free resource right now.
